The POC Fund would like to say a massive THANK YOU to the wonderful people at Sheffield Wednesday FC, for their support of the Fund and for hosting members at the Sheffield Weds v Middlesbrough game on Saturday, 28th February. Patrick O'Connell joined Wednesday when he first moved to England from Belfast Celtic. "The Owls", through their supporters club, "Wednesdayite", have made a magnificent gesture by donating a sum of £1,000 to the cause. A long list of people to thank includes Peter Shaw (Director of Wednesdayite), Paul Holmes, former club legends Mel Sterland and Phil King, who were kind enough to attend and support our day along with John Duncan, former Chesterfield manager and Spurs, Derby and Dundee centre forward. Also in attendance was club historian, John Brodie and former Sheffield MP and Home Secretary, David Blunkett, who found time to chat with Mike and Sue O'Connell, relatives of Patrick. Once again, many, many thanks to all at Sheffield Wednesday for their support.

The might of FC BARCELONA have given their official backing to the POC Fund. The club have held an official press conference and have also offered a press release in favour of the POC Fund. Barça President Josep Maria Bartomeu has released the following statement -

"Barca is more than a club because, among other things, it is a club with a great history and memory. We like to remember all those people who made FC Barcelona what it is today. Everyone is important. Patrick O'Connell may not be as well known to younger generations, but he was a brave and loyal coach who gave himself to the club during a very difficult time here, an epoch of civil war. He left an indelible mark on every club he spent time with, greatly contributing to an increase in the popularity of football."

The Fund has to date received great support from former players such as Cruyff, Figo, Koeman, Eto'o and Kluivert. Many thanks to the Club and to Jason Pettigrove, our POC Fund Representative, journalist and Penya Blaugrana London member, for his tireless efforts.
